Charles P.B. Vanderpool is a graduate fellow in Dr. Huppert’s lab. Charlie graduated from Purdue University in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biologic Science. During his time at Purdue, Charlie worked with Dr. David J. Asai studying inner arm ciliary dynein and its function on motility in Tetrahymena thermophila. After his undergraduate studies, Charlie obtained his Medical Degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2005. Following medical school, he completed his Pediatric Residency at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. During residency, Charlie developed an interest in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and spent time in Dr. D. Brent Polk’s lab investigating probiotic bacteria and their role in modifying the host immune and inflammatory response in inflammatory bowel disease. Currently, Charlie is completing his fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Vanderbilt. Charlie joined the Huppert lab in 2009 following completion of his first year of fellowship. He is currently working on determining the role of Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor-6 and Notch signaling pathways in carcinogenesis within the mouse liver.
