VCSCB Walk to Cure Diabetes 2006

Nashville, TN

Members, family and friends of the Vanderbilt Center for Stem Cell Biology (VCSCB) teamed up once again for the 13th annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes held on September 16, 2006.

This year’s walk took place at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in Nashville, TN. Over 2,500 walkers participated in the event, and enjoyed complimentary breakfast and lunch, kid’s activities, live musical performances and karaoke.

Congressman Jim Cooper recently visited the laboratory of Mark Magnuson, Director of the VCSCB, on September 8, 2006. He, along with David and Worth Baker, a father and son with juvenile diabetes, were presented with VCSCB walk t-shirts. Cooper showed his support of stem cell research by wearing the VCSCB walk t-shirt the day of the event.

Thus far, the JDRF has raised over $430,000 towards its fundraising goals this year from this very successful event, and donations continue to roll in. The VCSCB is a proud supporter of the JDRF, as we continue in our efforts to advance stem cell biology and towards a cure for diabetes.
