VCSCB Walk to Cure Diabetes 2005

Nashville, TN

Members, family and friends of the Vanderbilt Center for Stem Cell Biology (VCSCB) put on their walking shoes and took steps toward a cure at the 12th annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes held on October 22, 2005.

It was a sunny, crisp morning, perfect fall weather for the 3-mile walk around Nashvilles Centennial Park. Over 2,500 walkers participated in the event, and enjoyed musical entertainment, craft stations, coffee, bagels and fruit prior to the walk.

Brenda Wynn from the Office of Congressman Jim Cooper attended the event and encouraged participants with Cooper''s support of stem cell research and increased funding for diabetes-related research.

Thus far, the JDRF has raised over $450,000 towards its fundraising goals this year from this very successful event, and donations continue to roll in. The VCSCB is a proud supporter of the JDRF, as we continue in our efforts to advance stem cell biology and towards a cure for diabetes.
