In Vitro fertilization and ovary transplantation can be performed if a valuable transgenic line ceases to breed. For in vitro fertilization, sperm from a transgenic male is used to fertilize eggs from superovulated female mice. After fertilization, two-cell embryos are implanted into recipient animals.
For ovary transplantation, ovaries from a transgenic female are removed and transplanted into 2-4 recipient animals. This service is also not frequently utilized, but is sometimes essential when a valuable line of animals ceases to reproduce and is put at risk.
The current charge for assisted reproduction technologies is $1,310 per experiment. Three core personnel are capable of performing this service.
